No matter where you live, weather creates challenges to networking. You may feel less motivated because it’s snowing, raining or whatever, but others are counting on you. Treat networking like the post office, “Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds.” Do […]
While networking with some peeps the other day I mentioned Mike Montgomery as a hockey player I knew. One of the people asked, “Is he a goalie?” (which he is). During Mike’s presentation this morning we learned that he worked at Bell Labs in a prior life (as did my mom, dad and myself). Connections […]
One of my networking partners invited me to a sporting event. With only two days notice, you can imagine the shuffling it took to make it all work out. You never know who you will meet (friends, clients and more). Networking through association can be fruitful and fun!
I never knew the United Center (where the Bulls, Hawks and Elephants play), had an elevator with 8 floors. Filling a stadium with 22,000+ people and getting them where they need to be, takes a village of people. Getting them in and out in a snow storm is a challenge! Talk about a networking opportunity!
My band got to play a holiday party today. It was a corporate party that was at a very nice resort. Came to find out that we got hired because of a job we played for some teachers in the summer. The manager who hired us was the husband of someone at the teacher party. […]
I have done several posts about Think Tank Groups. It’s a place to learn from others, but more importantly, it’s a place to let it all hang out. Share your thoughts, fears and mistakes. Its’s a place where people who have made similar mistakes, feel your pain. You may not get your answers this meeting […]
Every time I teach a class, I learn. I learn what is the pulse of the greater business community and what THEY need to learn. What do I need to remove? What do I need to add? What are the current hot buttons? What is “So Yesterday?”. It’s the difference between talking at, vs talking […]
The holidays present times of joy, parties, and confusion. When networking, you meet up with a lot of people. Some are christian, jewish, muslim, buddhist, hindi, and many others including agnostic or atheist. You never know? Just like your business should not always be about you all the time, this should be a time of […]
We all get busy around the holidays. Parties, family and commitments (in no particular order), tend to eat up a lot of our time. Unless your group has declared a day off, then do your best to show up and participate. Most networking groups are not so low key that they allow show up when […]
A client sent me an email that his new assistant found a couple of typos on a two year old website. I told him I would fix them but it would cost $50. I was fixing something that I copied and pasted from their old website. When I received a check for only half, I […]
